Currently, the disposal of rubber tires has generated concern in society due to its irregular dumping. The difficulty in recycling the material and its impact on environment has sparked scientific interest. Researchers are exploring various possible destinations that can be given to this material to prevent environmental impact. Thus, the study investigated the partial replacement of fine aggregates in mortars made for wall coverings with rubber from crushed tires, using the ratios 1:3, 1:5, 1:0.5:3, and 1:1:5, with 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, and 60% substitution. Laboratory tests were conducted to evaluate the properties of water absorption by capillarity, water absorption by immersion, axial compression strength, and tensile strength by diametric compression. All tests were performed in accordance with the methodologies specified by the respective standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT). As a result, it was found that partially replacing 20% of natural fine aggregates (sand) with waste tires did not cause significant compromise in the studied mechanical properties when compared with traditional mortars.
